What is a lenders panel?

A lenders panel is the set of banks, non-bank lenders, and other financial institutions a mortgage broker is accredited with and can submit loan applications to for clients.

A lenders panel represents the network of banks, building societies, non-bank lenders, and other financial institutions that a mortgage broker is formally accredited to work with. When you approach a broker in Sydney, the lenders on their panel are the ones they can submit your loan application to directly.

Brokers build their panels through accreditation agreements with individual lenders. These agreements vary in breadth. Some brokers maintain access to the major banks (the team, the team, ANZ, NAB) plus dozens of smaller institutions. Others specialise in particular segments, such as non-bank lenders or specialist home loan products. The size and quality of a broker's panel affects what options they can present to you.

Why this matters: a larger, well-curated panel typically means more loan products, better rate competition, and a higher chance of approval if you have unusual circumstances. If a broker only has 10 lenders versus 40, you have fewer pathways to a loan. Some brokers also maintain panels tilted toward specific borrower profiles (investors, first-home buyers, self-employed) or loan types (construction, refinance, commercial).

When comparing mortgage brokers in Sydney, asking about their panel composition, number of accreditations, and which lenders they specialise with can tell you whether they are likely to find a competitive outcome for your situation.
